Interior Signage in Grayslake, IL

Grayslake is about 11 miles from our shop. It’s the education and civic center of the county’s interior, home to the main campus of College of Lake County, District 127, the Lake County Fairgrounds and village government buildings.

Higher education

College of Lake County’s Grayslake campus is its largest, and campus buildings bring a signage problem that differs from a single-tenant office or hospital: constant public foot traffic, frequent room and department reassignment, and the need for wayfinding that a first-time visitor can follow without help. That puts a premium on getting wayfinding signage right from the start, since campus signage tends to stay in place for years between updates.

Schools and civic buildings

District 127 serves Grayslake’s K-12 population, and village government buildings add a second category of institutional client: public buildings that need correctly scoped ADA signage, a documented sign schedule for approval, and closeout paperwork for the village’s records. We treat civic projects the same way we’d treat any formal-procurement job: shop drawings, submittal, and a clean set of as-builts at the end.

The Lake County Fairgrounds is a different kind of property again: large, mostly outdoor, with signage needs that shift by event. That mix of permanent directional signage and temporary event signage is common at venues like this, and it’s a case where the visual-only standard for directional signs (no tactile or braille requirement) keeps a large temporary sign package practical to produce and install on an event timeline.
